Unconscious Bias is often a quick and inaccurate judgement based on limited facts and our own life experiences. These judgements can give colleagues both an advantage and disadvantage in the workplace.
People can be biased about just about anything – not only with things like gender, skin colour, or age, but also things like communication style or what someone does in their free time. Unconscious bias is not intentional but it forms part of how we all see things.
When people don’t fit our own expectations, we can sometimes have difficulty seeing their full potential clearly – which in turn means we interact with them less effectively.
When we understand how biases influence our behaviours, we can work towards creating an inclusive culture where everyone can contribute, innovate and provide solutions.
